Anne practices at KIMS Hospital in Maidstone, Kent, 25 Harley Street and at The Private GP Clinic in Sevenoaks, Kent. She is also regularly involved in teaching, training and lecturing at both regional and national level in her speciality.
Anne is a British Menopause Society Accredited Specialist, a recognition which is applied to only 150 consultants in the UK recognising the higher level training, expertise and ongoing clinical workload which this group of specialists undertake.
Anne is passionate about women’s health issues, particularly menopause and HRT, which is now a key health agenda following the publication of the NICE Guidelines in 2015. She feels there is a great need to expand the existing service to ensure that all women are able to access quality care, not merely based on their ability to pay for private care or a postcode lottery. She has enormous experience in this particular field having carried out four years’ postgraduate research into the menopause and HRT, PMS and post-natal depression, studying with Professor John Studd, who is the pre-eminent world expert in the field. This was followed by several decades of clinical practice during which she established one of the largest NHS Menopause Clinics in the South East, treating many hundreds of women every year. She now practices exclusively in the private sector where she continues to run busy menopause clinics in both Kent and London.
Anne believes in offering her patients the full spectrum of treatments which can help manage the peri-menopause and menopause, including complementary therapies such as herbal medicines. She has worked closely with a medical herbalist colleague in Kent for the last 15 years: a highly successful collaboration that forms an integral part of her clinical practice and educational seminars. Anne was a strong proponent of herbal medicine long before the publication of more recent studies which have shown the significant benefits that such treatments can offer menopausal women. She believes that the value of complementary therapies such as herbal medicine is greatly under-recognised by many GP’s and gynaecologists.
Anne is heavily involved in all aspects of education in this field and has organised numerous training and educational days for a variety of employers, including Fire and Rescue and Police Services in Kent, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Cambridge. These workshops have been very well received and an ongoing educational programme is planned during 2018 and 2019. She is also expanding this programme into the university sector and has lectured at the Kent and Medway University campuses. This is in addition to her extensive education track record teaching and training throughout Kent and In London, to fellow gynaecologists, GP’s and Practice Nurses, which continues on a regular basis.
Anne is also the medical advisor to BRCA Kent, one of the largest support groups for BRCA patients in the UK, which provides advice to women in the East and West Kent. Along with the BRCA Kent team, she runs annual multi-disciplinary education and updates study days for BRCA carriers and medical practitioners throughout Kent and the surrounding areas.
In addition to her clinical work, Anne has an extensive medico-legal practice: her interest in this area began as a result of her experience as an NHS Consultant lead for Obstetric Risk. She finds this a sobering aspect of her timetables and feels it is vital that ongoing training, education and support is offered to the next generation of doctors and midwives in her speciality with the aim of consistently improving the quality of care. In keeping with her interest in education and appraisal, Anne lectures to lawyers and barristers as part of their update training and is a regular presenter at the highly acclaimed 7 Bedford Row “Skeleton Series” lectures.
Anne has been published widely in the medical literature including peer-reviews journals such as the BMJ, The Lancet and New England Journal of Medicine. Her articles and advice have also featured in the mainstream media including The Guardian, Daily Mail, The Times and Sunday Times and in various women’s magazines including Red, Womens Journal and Good Housekeeping. Throughout her career she has been involved in the broadcast media as well, having appeared on Radio 4, This Morning, Radio Kent and more recently, on the LBC Medical Hour where she discussed menopause and HRT with Beverly Turner, and also on Chanel 5’s The Wright Stuff discussing premature menopause.
