Researchers at the University of Surrey are recruiting for a study looking at whether a daily prebiotic supplement (galacto-oligosaccharides, or GOS) can help with perimenopausal brain fog, sleep and mood. This builds on emerging research into the gut-brain axis, though evidence in this area is still developing.

What’s involved: a six-week, placebo-controlled study. Participants take a daily supplement, complete short questionnaires, wear a sleep-tracking watch for two weeks, keep a brief food diary, and provide two at-home stool samples.

Who can take part: women experiencing perimenopause, English-speaking, living in the UK. Both those on HRT and not on HRT can apply. Some medical conditions and medications are exclusion criteria.
