A new study has been launched investigating emotional processing in premenstrual syndrome to better understand the role that psychological factors play in premenstrual distress.

Recruitment is now underway and the team at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King’s College London would love to hear from you if you are:

  • UK based (18yo+) experiencing premenstrual difficulties that occur in the week or so before you period, which cease as your period arrives
  • Menstruating at regular intervals (21-35 days)
  • Not pregnant or breastfeeding & Not in menopause
  • Not on hormone influencing medications, e.g. hormone affecting contraception
  • Not currently experiencing hallucinations, paranoia or significant alcohol or drug misuse
  • Not affected by gynaecological diseases such as endometriosis or polycystic ovary syndrome


  • A woman who has never experienced any premenstrual difficulties or mental health conditions
