The British Menopause Society was saddened to hear of the death of Professor Dame Valerie Beral.
An eminent epidemiologist and academic, Professor Beral’s early work showed the oral contraceptive pill was safe and shed light on many other health issues. In Oxford, she was one of the leaders of the Million Women Study which was opened in 1997, and recruited more than 1.3 million UK women over 50 via the NHS breast screening centres.
