A new Bone Health Accreditation Scheme, offered by the Royal Osteoporosis Society (ROS) charity, officially launched yesterday as part of their mission to improve the bone health of the nation.

The health company Get More Vits is the first to sign up to the new scheme. Their Mango and Passionfruit soft drink offers consumers their daily dose of vitamin D – an important vitamin for maintaining healthy bones – and will now have the Bone Health Approved logo on its packaging to acknowledge it.

A wide range of products and services including foods, beverages, supplements and living aids will be able to apply to use the bespoke logo on their packaging and in their marketing, which will mean that the charity’s experts have approved the bone health claims made.

Bone health is important throughout life and with a bone broken every minute in the UK because of osteoporosis, this new scheme has been launched to encourage consumers to make good choices for their bone health. It will give them an added level of confidence when buying a product with the Bone Health Approved logo.

Craig Jones, Chief Executive of the Royal Osteoporosis Society said,

“We’re proud to launch our Bone Health Accreditation Scheme because it’s a vital part of our work to improve the nation’s bone health. 3.5 million people are living with osteoporosis in the UK and this devasting condition and broken bones are often considered, wrongly, to be an inevitable part of ageing. This simply isn’t the case and there are things we can all do to help our bones stay strong, including having a balanced diet and active lifestyle.

“Get More Vits is the perfect partner to launch the scheme with because of the huge benefits of vitamin D for bone health – low vitamin D levels increase your risk of osteoporosis and broken bones. And while we have all been inside a lot more because of the pandemic, this has become more essential than ever.”

Steve Norris, Director & Co-Founder, Get More Vits said,

“At Get More Vits we are constantly striving to educate consumers on the importance of increasing their daily dose of vitamins. We have thus created an extensive range of products that each offer a convenient, healthy and tasty way to help consumers optimise vitamin intake. It is especially important to keep our Vitamin D levels topped up, as many of us have lower than optimum levels, or are even deficient.

“That’s why it’s fantastic to be working with the Royal Osteoporosis Society and to have earned Bone Health Accreditation for our Get More Vits Vitamin D drink. It will boost our efforts to reiterate the importance of Vitamin D in supporting healthy bones, hopefully encouraging consumers to try our delicious Mango & Passionfruit Vitamin D drink as an alternative way of increasing their Vitamin D intake.”

As the UK’s only national charity dedicated to bone health and osteoporosis, the ROS is working to bust myths and raise awareness of what we can all do to look after our bones now, including through the products that we buy.
