Withdrawal of Estradiol implants

The pharmaceutical company Merck & Co Inc (MSD) gave notice on 5 July 2011 of the cessation of their manufacture, distribution and supply of Estradiol hormone implants – both 25 & 50 milligram.

This commercial decision has been challenged by our ‘sister’ charity, the British Menopause Society (BMS). Its statement is shown at www.thebms.org.uk. The BMS will be issuing updates on the present situation which will be of interest to health professionals and to patients.

Unfortunately Women’s Health Concern cannot advise on an alternative therapy. Patients who are concerned by the withdrawal should consult their GP.
