Women's Health Concern

Ways of donating

We can offer you detailed information, including formal legal advice, on any form of donation outlined below.

Personal

WHC welcomes donations through justgiving or by cheque or postal order. It is not recommended that you send cash through the post but it is most acceptable to receive cash donations through, for example, collection boxes at events or in the WHC office.

Gift Aid

Where eligible, as a UK tax payer, your personal donation will have Gift Aid applied, so increasing the benefit to the charity by 28p per £1.

Payroll giving

This scheme enables employees to to give to any UK charity straight from their gross salary. It is tax effective, the donor gaining immediate tax relief, eg. a £10 donation would generate £4 relief for higher rate tax payers and £2.20 for basic rate tax payers.

Legacy

Bequests of money or property or specified items such as shares, paintings or collections are completely free of Inheritance Tax.
Please remember WHC in your will.

Share giving

We gratefully accept gifts of shares with a view either to selling or retaining as an investment, subject to the donor's instructions or advice. Donors get relief on income tax and exemption from Capital Gains Tax.

Gifts of land or buildings

Similar to share giving, we accept gifts of property or land. Tax benefits to the donor, as above.

Self assessment

If a donor completes a Self Assessment tax return, then any part of a tax repayment can be given to charity.

Membership

Unlike some medical charities WHC is not a membership organisation. We are delighted to receive regular or one-off donations for the expert help we offer but do not believe this is a basis to offer further services for a fee. Information is freely available on this website or through personal contact with our nurse advisors. Feedback suggests that women prefer to take our advice and then 'move on.'

Friends of WHC

This is a form of membership but is specifically directed towards health professionals, such as practice nurses, who by joining receive easy access to information on women's health – breaking news, webcasts, email access to our medical advisory panel, newsletters – all designed to help nurses support their female patients.  Friends scheme >

Events

We are not resourced to organise and manage large scale or frequent fundraising events. However, we will always consider your ideas for raising money and offer materials and prizes. Events calendar >

Trading

WHC does not have a trading company but we gratefully receive donations of gifts that are suitable for auction or raffle prizes.

Corporate support

See Sponsorship. Many organisations regularly give allocations of money to charities chosen by their employees. If your company employs, for example, a high proportion of women, please consider suggesting that your 'charity committee' considers voting a grant to WHC.

Advertising

Promoting our work is crucial. Your support in securing complimentary space for editorials or advertisements in newspapers, magazines and journals is equivalent to a most generous donation.

Public funding

We frequently review our eligibility to apply for funding through the Big Lottery, Department of Health and local government, eg London Councils. Regrettably, current priorities for public funding do not enable grants to be made towards the provision of women's health services such as those offered by Women's Health Concern.
